Welcome to Harry Cann Country
Watercolors and sketches by Harry Evans Cann (1893-1974)
What is the Industrialist's Brush?
The Industrialist's Brush is a visual narrative created from a lifetime appreciating the artwork of Harry E. Cann. Harry was a prominent figure in Chester County, Pennsylvania in the mid 20th century. He was a respected businessman and industrialist, and few knew that he was also an artist. His company, ESCO, founded with his younger brother Merrill, became a multi-million dollar company based on their inventions developed for the dairy industry at the moment rural electrification was gaining steam in America.
Harry Cann was my grandfather, and like Harry, I grew up in Marshallton, Pennsylvania, a small historic village about halfway between Lancaster and Philadelphia. I've been blessed to be surrounded by his artwork my entire life. This website and my book 'The Industrialist's Brush' were created to bring his paintings of the places he loved and the events of his life to a wider audience. Importantly, Harry captured moments of his life in Chester County in a way that people in the future (us) may have a relationship with the past.

Many may never have heard of Harry E Cann, nor be familiar with his artwork. That may be because he never sold his artwork, yet, his art continues to be sought after by collectors who do. Please join me in a fascinating view of a special part of the world.
